Reception

Meet the Team

Hello, I am Mrs Parkes,

I am the Assistant Headteacher, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and Key Stage 1 Lead at SMSG.

With 14 years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of working across all year groups from Nursery to Year 6. This year, I’m excited to be teaching Reception and helping to lay the foundations for our youngest learners. My favourite subjects to teach are English and History, as I enjoy bringing stories and the past to life in the classroom.

Outside of school, I love reading, listening to music, and spending quality time with my family and our dog, Henry.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know the Reception class and supporting them at the very start of their educational journey.

Nursery

Hi, I am Mrs Shaw,

I have been working at St Mary and St Giles Church of England School since September 2006 and am a Level 3 Early Years Care and Education Practitioner.

I’m really looking forward to welcoming the new children into SMSG Nursery and supporting their development throughout the year.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking the dog, and watching live music.

Hello, I am Mrs Tonga,

I am a Level 4 Early Years Advanced Practitioner. Although I joined St Mary and St Giles Church of England School in 2024, I have worked in Early Years for over 20 years.

I’m excited to use my experience to help launch the new two-year-old provision at SMSG in September 2025.

In my spare time, I volunteer with my son’s grassroots football team and enjoy taking on sponsorship challenges to raise money for charity.

My name is Mrs Begum,

I have been working at St Mary and St Giles Church of England School since 2003.

Since 2023, I have been working as an Early Years Teaching Assistant in the SMSG Nursery.

I enjoy working with children and creating a safe, nurturing environment where they can learn and grow.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and going for walks whenever I get the chance.
